Today’s concert tours provide the engine for the development of star power and accelerated record sales in all corners of the globe. Rare is the musician or any other entertainment act that can achieve the status of “super star” without putting forth the monumental effort of touring with their production and subsidiary staff, for the purpose of showing off their talents to a larger audience.

Generating revenues through ticket, record and souvenir sales is the major purpose of the highly orchestrated tours that today’s premier musical acts provide. Touring allows fans of particular musical acts to gather in an excitement-charged environment with other like-minded music lovers to experience their favorite musicians on a more intimate level. Concert tours provide the “perfect storm” of money-making and buzz-generating opportunities to create a nearly infinite gaggle of adoring fans on a global scale.

The amazing excess of capital and advertisement generated through touring endeavors can catapault musicians to levels of fame that they may have never imagined prior to their frenzied trek of multiple locations, which may last for only hours at carefully chosen venues. It is likely that the massive success of musical tours will continue to drive the music industry for many years.Still bored?

For every great rock n roll band, and every great rock n roll artist, there is a great promoter backing them up. Considered to be one of the best rock n roll promoters of all time, BIll Graham, has really done a great job in creating some of the best and most well known artists and bands in the world. To have a great name in the industry, and to be popular, it doesn’t matter how good your band is, if you don’t have the right promoter getting its name out to the public, and booking the big shows and venues, you are never going to make a name for yourselves in the industry.

Breaking into the game in rock n roll, and any other music styling for that matter, takes a great promoter getting your name out to fans, radio stations, and to the events you will play, so that fans can hear your music. So, if you want to be the best, you must find the best to get your name out there, and get your songs heard and played on the radio. Still to this day, Bill Graham is considered one of the best promoters in the industry, and has done the best job for several famous bands out there.

Narrowing down 5 of the greatest rock and roll shows ever can be hard to do but, if I had to pick I would most definitely start with the Beatles at Shea stadium in ’65. The “British Invasion” starting right here is the United States was an amazing step up for rock and roll everywhere. This concert brought in around 56,000 people which is just epic. Also, speaking of epic, could there ever be another Woodstock? All the talent, emotion, great music and heart that went into this event, couldn’t have been more earth moving for rock and roll by definition.

These kind of shows obviously set the stage for the next generation of rock and roll to come. These are big shoes to fill but bands stepped up to plate and smacked a home run every single time. When The Rolling Stones and bands like U-2 took stage, it was yet another great break through with sold out shows and massive, music hungry crowds, wanting more. Greats like, Hendrex, Dylan, ACDC, Aerosmith , just to name a few, will be remembered as the ones who shaped and laid the foundation for great rock music everywhere. Hail, Hail, Rock and Roll!
